Artist Statement

My recent work explores the exchange between natural forms and objects with emotion and memory. The folds, undulations, and wrinkles in my paintings are a visual depiction of the space between an internal and external world. I am constantly inspired by the cycles occurring in the natural world, like erosion, succession, and the changing of seasons. I observe these cycles reflected in the objects found in nature, then I pull these objects into my paintings where they become fractured into an evolving visual atmosphere. This process reveals patterns and repeating compositions in my work as if each painting is a fragment of one landscape slowly being revealed.

While my work pulls from nature and landscapes, there is something inherently internal about them. They are a response to emotion, memory, and intuition. As I work, I let each piece evolve and shift with the brushstrokes and colors. It can feel like a painting knows itself long before I do, and Iā€™m just the hands working to bring it to the surface. To me, painting is a way of understanding the world outside and within myself. When I spend time in nature and learn about the habitual cycles of the natural world, I am reminded of how these cycles occur on a personal level. My paintings work to bridge this connection between the outside and inside. They offer a space that feels familiar and ethereal.
